Baseline Protector App

What's the Problem?
Project Professional does not provide sufficient restrictions on protecting the most important aspect of your project plan: the baseline. With "out of the box" Project Professional, resources can be incorrectly assigned to summary and milestone tasks. Project Pro also allows an assigned resource or task that has actual or baseline work associated with it, to be deleted, thereby corrupting the project's baseline.

DCI Approach -- The Baseline Protector App
DCI's approach is an addin app that provides business logic control to ensure project planning satisfies baseline planning control and data protection requirements. The Baseline Protector App prevents assignment of Resources to Summary or Milestone Tasks and prevents current resource assigned tasks from being converted to a Summary or Milestone Task. The App prevents the deletion of a resource from the project if the resource has Actual or Baseline work assigned. The App also prevents the deletion of a task that has Actual or Baseline work and prevents the deletion of a resource from a task if the resource has Actual or Baseline work.

Notification Killer App

What are Notifications?
Project Server sends email messages to resources when they are assigned new tasks, when the task they are already assigned is changed or when the task is deleted. These notifications are typically sent every time a project plan is published as the result of changes. The result is a resource will receive numerous email messages during the day. Further, Project Server sends daily messages to remind users of starting, overdue and late starting tasks. Although valuable information, these notifications are more of an annoyance than helpful. Finally, there are other notifications that warn of failures or problems that are very important

Typical Approach to Resolving the Notification Issue
Microsoft suggests training users to change their personal settings to turn off the offending messages. Unfortunately, this doesn't work very well and leads to constant requests to help desk support for assistance in turning them off. Many organizations simply turn off ALL notificaitons. This works but also turns off important warning messages and therefore, we do not recommend this approach.

DCI Approach -- The Notification Killer App
DCI's approach is an Event Handler that cancels sending the Task Update and Reminder messages, allowing all other messages to be sent.
